Celestial - loose beadsWhen I attended the Fall Bead Retreat at Marjorie Langston's, Susan Thornton of Thornton Metalworks gave me a small square of copper.  I finally found something to do with it!  The copper has to be encased or it just turns yucky... especially on top of black.  You will notice some red in places as well as some bubbles.  If I understand correctly, this comes from the copper oxidizing when the torch flame touches it.  These beads were really a challenge, but I like the end results!

Celestial - Focal CloseupCelestial - copper pair closeupThe focal bead (11.5mm by 17mm) has a black base surrounded by copper stars.  After encasing the bead in clear, I dotted the edge with Lauscha turquoise.  The next pair of beads (8.5mm by 12.5mm) are based on the "warring states" design.  They use the same turquoise, black and coral.

The matching pair of encased beads (7.5mm by 12.5mm) have slivers of copper arbitrarily placed around the circumference of the black bead.  After encasing these, I used turquoise for the raised dots.

The smallest pair of beads (5.5mm by 8.5mm) have a turquoise base with multi-layered dots of coral, black and turquoise.

Celestial is temporarily strung on sterling silver wire with 5 and 6mm Jet Swarovski® crystals and copper finished pewter heishe for accent.
